During Advent, at the Sunday worhship services, members of your Christ Church vestry will be presenting information about how the church distributes the gifts of financial support it receives from this community.
There are no dues or required entrance fees to be a member of the Christ Church community. Every person who claims Christ Church as their spiritual home is invited to make a financial commitment in order to support the work and ministry of Christ Church. Most people give either weekly or monthly as part of their commitment to worship and serve God. At Christ Church, we seek to honor what we call faith-based pledging. This means that your pledge is strictly between you and God. Some people may give $150 per week while others pledge $5 per week. Whatever the amount, the pledge is based on a prayerful conversation with God and with the knowledge of what the parish needs to provide for its ongoing ministry. The Christ Church vestry determines the annual budget based upon a review of previous years of overall giving and the expenses required to carry out our ministry as a community of faith.
What are our other income sources? As shown in the chart below, Pledge & Plate offerings provide 62% of our income. We’ve also been blessed with four rental properties that generate approximately 27% of our yearly income. For the last two years, Bishop Bruno has provided a grant that covers the minister of Rev. Bill. We plan various fundraising events throughout the year to support outreach activities. Donations received from those who use our facilities like the church hall, provide the reminder of the church’s yearly income.

How do I pledge?
Everyone on our mailing list should have received a pledge packet in the mail. Packets are also available at the back of the Church.
1) After you decide what you are willing to pledge for the coming year, write that amount on the pledge card included in the mailing and place it in the envelope provided. We have also included a copy of the pledge card below for you to enter your pledge information and to keep for your own records. Note: We can accept donations of stock. Please contact the church office to arrange for this option.
2) Write your name and address on the outside of the envelope. Next year, your sealed envelope with your pledge card inside will be returned to you unopened. This is our best effort to provide anonymity and of making sure that you will be given pledge envelopes that allow you to receive a quarterly statement of your gifts to the church for your tax records.
3) Bring your sealed pledge envelope to church and place it on the offering plate. We have set aside December 2, 9 & 16 as our ingathering Sundays, but you may turn in a pledge envelope anytime during the year. Your 2008 pledge evelopes will be ready for you to pick up by year end.
UPDATE FOR DECEMBER 9, 2007 (Advent II)
During Advent, at the Sunday worhship services, members of your Christ Church vestry will be presenting information about how the church distributes the gifts of financial support it receives from this community.
How are we doing in supporting the work locally at Christ Church?
As this chart shows, our expenses are grouped into 4 main areas: personnel (salary, benefits & insurance); facilities & equipment; worship ministry and the outreach activities we support directly (Corazon, Shared Bread, CSULB chaplaincy, Belize Project, etc.) and our proportional Mission Share contribution to the diocese. What this chart cannot show is the incredible amount of time and talent that so many in our Christ Church community contribute throughout the year.

How do we support the work of the larger Episcopal Church?
Through our Mission Share contribution (based on 15% of our income from 2 years ago), we support the mission of the Los Angeles Diocese and National Episcopal Church. This chart shows how our mission share contribution is used by the diocese to carry out Christ’s mission locally, nationally, and world-wide through our commitment to the Millennium Development Goals.
